Compare what the gauge indicates to the specs. You experiencing problems with speed and acceleration? No transmission problems either?

With the limited info you have given I can only suggest a couple of things and ask a couple of questions of my own.Did it ever rev higher? 3000 is about right in top gear and at 75 mph. If it did, have you changed anything, like an air filter or exhaust? Some things to check....Timing, Cam Belt Timing, exhaust restriction, air filter restriction, fuel flow restriction, weight of girl friend.

I assume it revs only to 3K in neutral with no load. Does it run rough when it's maxed out? Does it put out black smoke (or white smoke)? If yes to running rough and/or black smoke, get a tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor) and dump some injector cleaner in the tank. If white or blue-white smoke, you got some major issues.
