it has a hole and i dont know if it has to be covered or uncovered

Uh, the whole point of an intake system is to take in (in-take, get it?) air. The hole is most likely where that air actually flows into the engine, so it's fairly essential that it be uncovered. But then "it has a hole" isn't very specific, so I don't really have any idea of what you're talking about.
