those chips on ebay are way too cheap to be trusted. Get the one where u can connect it to the harass. that is located above the gas pedel on the right side. This way you dont take the pcm out and install the chip but you reprogram the computer. Same thing

If you are looking at the right chip for your model of car, the item should include a insturction manual for easy installation. But most likely it will just be a sensor, and that can be anywhere in the front of your car, but most likely somewhere up front. Those computer chips only increase the rate of gas/air ratio, and you end up losing a couple MPG. It is pretty much like just giving it more gas, and using the lower gears more, but not actually doing it, but using the same amount of gas with the chip (if that made sense).

There are two versions of these computer chips: The first is the 'piggyback' unit which alters the air temperature reading which is received by the ECU. Thus the ECU is led to believe that the air in the throttle body is colder than it actually is. The ECU changes the air-fuel ratio to suite the 'colder' air. Thereby producing more power. The other version is the complete aftermarket ECU. With this unit, you can change air-fuel ratios, VTec timing, Rev-limiters and perform many other performance tweaks. It is best to get units from trusted manufacturers such as Greddy and AEM etc. There are also compatibility and wire harness issues that need to be taken into consideration when installing these ECUs.I believe the ECU of the 1996 Honda Civic is located in the passenger side footwell, tucked behind a plastic panel.

The cheap ebay chips do not plug into the PCM. They plug into the temperature sensor and fool the PCM into thinking the car is cold and thus changing the program. eventually you will have problems with the engine or pcm.Buy a good chip from a reputable manufacturer.PCM= Power Control Manager

Why does anybody that owns Hondas want to make it go fast? What is it with you people? Just buy a damn Mustang GT with 300 hp stock from the factory! No matter how much mods you put in the Honda, you save more money on buying a mustang.

Cool Re: computer chip....?

A Honda will outlast any ford on the market. This includes the mustang. How many mustangs older than ten years do you see running? How many older than ten year accords do you see running? Also, do you have any idea how fast a v-tec engine really can get? I used to drive an Accord v-tec four cylinder it was a 1998 and it was fast enough for me stock that I didn't mod it. Now I put the thing into a bus and I drive a cavalier, which is a nice car, but by all means much shittier than my older accord was. They promise 300 bhp stock, but what they don't mention is where they have to compromise also, which is in the overall quality of the vehicle itself. Mustangs end up being lemons after fifteen years, and a Honda easily runs like new for thirty or more years. Why don't you get a life and stop posting in the Honda forums if you are just going to flamebait?

The computer chip installed in the car not only increases the HP of the car, but also monitors the performance of the engine. As for buying one in ebay, I suggest checking some in car parts stores online... Car chips really depends on the type of vehicle and instruction manual is included upon buying one.
