Very many as long as you perform general upkeep on your engine. Do scheduled tune up's & oil changes & don't forget to check your transmission fluid.

Miles per gallon? It depends on the size of the engine 1.8, 2.5...the bigger it is the more gas it burns. Parts like turbos really cause the mpg to diminish. I have a 2.5 4 cyl without out any gas hog parts except 4 wheel drive and I get between 25 and 28 mpg.

There is no single number, but with good routine maintenance 250,000 miles isn't out of the question for most. I think I read somewhere about some 4-cyl. car going over 1 million miles - it is a Volvo 1800. The engine on one of them was rebuilt at 680,000! Apparently it's heading toward 3 million miles now. There is another 1800 that is over a million apparently on the original engine A web search would find more info on it.

We used to have a Chevy Monza (years ago) that had over 180,000 miles on it before the tie rod broke. My husband never fixed it, but I'll bet that car still had 20,000 miles left in her! We'll never know.
