Default Rattling Sound in my 1987 Honda Accord. What is it?

I'm thinking its the heat shield, but im not quite sure, since im not a genius at car repairs/work. When it goes at a certain speed (usually between 25-40 MPH) when your barely giving it gas, it rattles (sounds like your shaking a coin inside a tin can). What do you guys think? BTW - This car is very nice. The Japs really know how to design cars! (proof is in the Toyota Camry, the best-selling car in America.)Thanks CTK. This is my first car and I try to take pride in it, even though its an 1987.

Check out your exhaust system first, if it has a cat fitted it could have broken up.

First of all I'm sure they love it when americans call them Japs. Second of all it's an 87. Not worth the money to fix it. Does it work ok than leave it. Use the money to buy louder speakers.

Hello. I believe your assumption is correct. The welds on the heat shields sometimes come loose. If you can pinpoint which one is making the noise, you can often times use a large radiator type hose clamp and clamp around it and that will get rid of the rattling. The big hose clamps are available at most car parts stores. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you!

Been there/done that. Most likely it is the catalytic converter, mine would make that same sound at a neutral throttle. Have it replaced or remove the heat shield and slightly bend the converter with a jack. Worked for me.
