thats about as far as you can go before it gets gay. you could put a fart muffler on it but it will make it sound like ass and you wont gain anything throwing a 5" wide muffler on 1 1/2" exhaust. Even if you do do full length exhaust your engine doesn't produce enough power to really utilize it. just enjoy it for what it is. You could get a chip burned but its generally pretty expensive and not worth the money.Emphasis on 'CHEAP' ways to gain horsepower read the question. last i checked taking the head off and 'shaving' it is not going to be real cheap. Nitrous on a stock motor? thats retarded. The motor was built for reliability and fuel economy Not a shot of nitrous to go racing. If not installed properly you can damage or destroy the engine in your car and even if it is your shaving miles and years off of the life of it. Cat back exhaust doesn't help hardly at all on a civic despite what you hear. it will just sound like crap and with the loss of backpressure you lose torque in doing so. it might help if more power was produced say through a turbo(which is far from cheap). I am being realistic here. Taking the ac out and interior is whats known as 'ricing it out'. Its not a drag car so its not going to help much. It will just look like ass and wont be very much fast. thats not even a performance mod, just ghetto as hell. Do you think T/A and STI drivers do that? probably not.I dont think you are really reading what i am saying. Am i trashing all jap cars? no. I know there are some respectable 'tuner cars' but a civic with a wing and a tacky body kit to make it look like a jet or whatever people do it for is stupid. If you show cars, more power to you. But yanking ac and the back seat out of any economy car for power is desperate, The ricers are the guys who put bolt ons onto their econo boxes and think they drive a porsche. being a ricer is an attitude. Intake and exhaust on a sub 200hp car is not going to make you fast. 14.1 on nitrous is fast? compared to what?

That should be the twin cam. You could use a vtec controller. You could have your head shaved safely 30thousandths. Do a full exhaust and put on a high flow/cat on it. Put a header on it. You could convert back to a p28 ecu. Check eBay for some pretty sweet deals. Of course, nitrous is a quick way to gain hp, 50 shots with stock timing. Any advancement could hurt your motor. Reduce weight in your car, get rid of a/c if you don't really need it. Better fuel and proper maintence always help. That last answerer had no idea of how to gain hp so he just shot out insults. There are many ways to gain hp. Good luck!

I have a 2005 honda civic ex special edition, I installed a aem short ram intake, did headers, full catback exhaust system, installed a performance chip and I was able to keep up with a 2009 monte carlo ss, didnt smoke em', but hung with them. If I had a downpipe and vtec controller and there is a good chance that I can smoke that ss, or if you want, save your money and do a motor swap. k20 series, you'd b one hell of a fast civic. check out ebay, they got some good deals
