Default we have a 94 honda passport, has anyone ever heard of a cam follower? if so how hard is it to...

...change? my g/f just came back from about 200 mile trip and it was knocking, kinda high in the engine, on the passenger side bank, friend said it sounded like a cam follower. any help will be appreciated

The cam followers sit on top of the valves. You have to remove the cam to change them.

That engine did not use the follower type valve system. The lifter is in the oil galley of the head the camshaft moves the rocker arm which opens the valve. A little bit of difference in the 2. Honda recommends 1st to replace the oil and filter with 0w30 mobil 1 synthetic oil. Run the engine till its warmed up. Then run the engine in park or N, at 2500 rpm and hold it there for up to 30 minutes, this will clean out the varnish buildup in the lifter and allow it to pump itself up. Keep an eye on the engine temp while doing this, it will get rather hot but should not climb into the red. If the ticking does not go away then the valve cover must be removed and the rocker arm and lifters and camshaft must all be inspected for excessive wear. I would give it a try, thats what honda wants their techs to do.
