To replace the freon, you need some very specialized equipment to be able to drain the system, vacuum it down, dry it out, and then put in the replacement freon. The machine that does this is over $1000. It's cheaper to go to the dealer and have them deal with it.

Take to any garage that does A/C work...you will need R-134a type of freon.....R-12 is for older pre 80's vehicle's. You will need the system drained & checked for leak's (the garage will do) BEFORE any freon is added....To anyone with a R-12 system: they make retrofit kit's for R-134a

It probably takes R134-A refrigerant. You can buy it at Wal-Mart. Look under the hood for a sticker that tells what kind it takes and how much. If it needs refrigerant, that means there is a leak. You really need to take it somewhere and get that fixed. Unless you have some kind of extended warranty on your car, you should take it somewhere like Tires Plus or Tire Kingdom. The dealership will charge more.
