Default what is all the chatter? it only does it in 4WD?

96 passport, 140000 milesi would never drive in 4 wheel on pavement

Could be a few different things. Your transfer case (inside gearing) could be messed up. Could be bad u joints or other driveline parts faulty also. Don't run it in 4wd until you get it looked at because you can cause much more extensive damage if it's some of these things.

well it is probably the universal joint on the axil - they are always wearing out.

Go to the dealership they may charge alot but you will at least get an acurate diagnosis and wont spend money trying to replace parts that are not broken.

Some vehicles with 4WD should not be driven on pavement while in the 4WD mode. They are designed to be in 4WD only in dirt, sand, or snow.
