Default I have a 90 Honda Accord,driving to Big Bear,what shift works best?

What's the best shift for inclines and declines going to Big Bear lake tomorrow a.m.? I have a 1990 Honda Accord automatic.

use s3 when going up steep inclines to avoid unnecessary shifting back and fourth. down steep hills if you have to ride the brakes in D, try s3 to avoid heating the brakes.

if you have an auto. (i'm pretty sure you do) leave it in D, because if you go into OD then all you do is "hurt" the transmission... but use OD when going downhill.

An automatic transmission is designed to select the best operating range for the engine based on multiple sensors and driving conditions. Therefore, the car will select the best gear no matter what incline or decline you'll be driving on.

Stay in automatic gear. It will automatically do what's best.
