fill your tank competely full, then drive until it's empty...well, don't run out on the side of the road or anything. Then look in your owner's manual to find out the size of your gas tank. Divide the number of miles you drove on the tank by the number of gallons your gas tank is, and voila! your mpg

first fill up your car and reset the trip on the odometer. Next drive until it is empty, fill it up again and calculate the milage based on the amount of gas used and mileage driven. Example I fill up my car reset the trip and drive 350 miles, it takes 18 gallons to fill it up so i get roughly 19.4 mpg...

The easiest way is to find out how many gallons your gas tank holds, you should be able to find that in the owners manual. Then next time you fill up your tank reset the trip odometer and see how many miles you can drive until you need to fill your tank again. Then divide the number of miles driven by the number of gallons of gas your tank holds. This will give you a pretty good idea of how many miles per gallon you're getting.

Fill your gas tank all the way. Check your mileage. Next time you fill your gas tank, divide the number of miles you traveled on that tank of gas by the amount of gas you added. That will give you a pretty good idea of how many miles your car gets per gallon.

The EPA estimations are usually wrong. Before you leave, just fill up completely and reset your mileage. Realistically, you don't wait until you completely run out of gas to fill up so when you get to "E" simply fill up again and check your mileage, then divide by your tank fuel capacity (the capacity will be located on the very last page of the owner's manual...usually). That's the most accurate way, because cars don't always get what they claim to, and individual cars differ depending on the "health" of the specific vehicle.

I make sure I fill my car up with gas. Then I clear my tripometer (or just note how many miles are on the odometer) and drive. The next time I get gas, I fill it up and I note how much gas I put in the tank, and also how many miles I drove (either by subtracting the current odometer reading from the first reading, or just getting the number off the tripometer). Then divide the number of miles you drove by how many gallons you put in your tank - you get your miles per gallon.
