Yes. Especially if you have an interference engine. If the belt breakes it can cause MAJOR engine damage. It's much smarter to replace it before something bad happens.

replacement intervals depend on year, model, engine. earlier hondas require replacement every 60k, some mid 90's, 90k, most newer hondas, 105kmi. just look in the owners manual under maintenance schedule, and follow what they recommend. if you are strapped for cash, you can push it 5kmi or so, but dont just forget it, most hondas do have interference engines, and will cost a fortune to fix if the belt breaks. it is also good practice to replace the water pump, cam seals, crank seal, balance shaft seal if it has one. it is just a little more labor plus parts cost once you have removed the t-belt, but if the water pump goes out, you will pay full t-belt labor to fix it should it fail, and chances are it will fail before the next t-belt replacement. hondas will go forever if maintained, but can be trashed if you just drive it without a worry.

Actually, consider replacement of the belt at no more than 70,000 miles. The belts wear out just like an alternator or steering pump belt. At over 70 000 miles you are pushing your luck.

Yes, it's very important! Also, don't forget to change the transmission fluid as specified because some models don't have a filter like a lot of other cars do, and the fluid can get very nasty. The price of a transmission can get VERY nasty too! $2200 for a rebuilt a few years ago!

If it last that long you were lucky. between 60 and 90k I believe is standard for most all makes of cars. It was 60k on my wife Voyager. Have it done it's cheaper than a new engine. Good Luck!~+

AS A HONDA PARTS COUNTERMAN, I CAN SAY THAT YOU SHOULD REPLACE YOUR TIMING BELT EVERY 90K. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BELT BREAK AS A RESULT OF "PUSHING YOU LUCK PAST 70K".

You have a few choices...1. You can have it replaced, as well as the other aforementioned seals, etc. and have piece of mind OR...2. You can let it break, and open your wallet OR...3. Buy a new Honda. It has a timing chain.
