I have a 1990 honda accord, the thermostat was bad and my boyfriend replaced it. after he finished, the car kept dying and restarted after switching it off. now, the car won't restart at all. i suspect he knocked something about while he was replacing the thermostat. could someone please tell me what might be the trouble? it was fine before that and I had the distributor and rotor replaced just 2 months ago.

Check and see if there is a ground wire that had been taken loose reattach the ground wire if it is. I had a civic and the ground wires were located on the valve cover the front of the car frame and one on the thermo housing If there is one not attatched the it can cause it not to start

this 3 year old post saved me from getting stuck on the highway. I love my android.
If anyone else reads this, I am still having trouble. I was having problems with my car overheating so I replaced my thermostat. Everything was tightened up and check (except for the ground wire). I let the car idle for about 20 minutes to make sure everything was working. My temp was good and nothing caught fire. Off to work I went. I drove for about 10 minutes before the car completely died. It started bucking and my check engine light (normally lit as an indication my engine is still there) started getting dim. I found this post, tightened up the bolt to the ground wire and my car started back up. I was suspect of the water pump at first, but after I tightened up the ground wire I was sure it was fixed. I got 30 seconds down the highway and my car started over heating again. Worse than before I replaced the thermostat. Could something else have gotten fried when the ground wire was loose? When the car initially died I thought I smelled an electrical smell instead of the usual coolant spewing from my reservoir all over my engine smell. Thanks for the help!
