Is it worth it to buy a Hybrid Civic? Do they cost a lot to fix and maintain?

Many articles suggest it would take 10 years to recoupe the expense of a hybrid. Meaning you won't catch up (or save) an amount equal to the extra cost of the car for 10 years.Try reading the articles below.

I am getting ready to get a new car and I considered a hybrid at one point, of course, I consulted my dad in this matter and we worked out the cost of replacing the batteries in a hybrid compared to the 35 mpg gas mileage of a Saturn ION 2/3. The batteries in a hybrid are good for about two to three years and cost between $3000 and $5000 to replace. So in the end it is basically break even as to whether you go with 35 mpg over something that gets maybe 48 mpg to 60 mpg but at some point in the future the price of replacing those batteries will kill you. I'd go with a standard fully gasoline powered car for now. On the other hand if you are extremely environmentally conscious then a hybrid is the way to go.

Depends on the cost of gas of course. If gas prices go up to the level they are in europe then hell yeah. The toyota prius looks like a better deal though. Not as conventional, but better gas mileage.

WELL I WOULD ALSO PICK THE TOYOTA OVER THE HONDA BUT BOTH ARE GREAT HYBRIDS. THE BATTERYS IN BOTH VEHICLES HAVE A WARRENTY OF 8 YEARS AND BETWEEN 85000MILES AND 10500OMILES UNDER WARRANTY. BUT BATTERS ARE BULIT TO LAST APPROX 200,000 MILES PER DEALERS AND ARTICLES I READ. IF YOU NORMALLY SPEND $19000-$25000 ON A VEHICLE, THEN YOU ARE NOT LOSEING ANY MONEY BY BUYING A HYBRID LIKE EVERYONE CLAIMS. INFACT I USUALLY SPEND $30,000 ON MY VEHICLES SO IF I BOUGHT A HYBRID AT $25000 I WOULD BE SAVING $5,000 ON PRICE AND SAVING MORE IN GAS. YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH A HYBRID AND YOU GET A $2000 TAX CREDIT. I PERSONALLY WOULDNT BUY A HYBRID JUST BECAUSE I LOVE FAST PICKUP AND HYBRIDS TEND TO HAVE SLOW PICK UP. BUT IF YOU ARE ASKING IF YOU SHOULD BUY THE REGULAR CIVIC OR A HYBRID CIVIC THEN YES YOU SAVE MORE MONEY IN THE LONG AND SHORT RUN BY BUYING THE NORMAL CIVIC.
