Default I have a blinking green "S" light in my 1990 Honda Accord. What does this mean?

It came on right as the speedometer stopped working for a few seconds (which happened 2 or 3 times) and stayed on until I turned the car off. It hasn't come back on yet in the two times I've driven the car since. I don't have the owner's manual.

The S light is for Service, so it was your car's way of polietly asking you to take it in to have it looked at.

bring your car in for service, but be prepared, some places do charge your for just diagnosing the problem by hooking up a computer. i work for a dealership. it is harder than it sounds like. Most of the time the technician needs to recreate the situation and take your car and drive it. I've had to do it countless times, sometimes it takes several hours and the technician needs to get paid. Most places have a flat rate so the customer isn't screwed over if the tech takes a long time.

Your problems most likely coming from your TCU,thats your auto trans. computer. Its located right under the passengers feet, just peel back your carpet,u should see 2 computers, the smaller one on the right is your tcu,If all fails try replacing your aUTO TRANS. solenoids, located right on top the transmission looks like 2 cloudy shot glasses sittin next 2 eachother

The s is the sport button it give u torque when driving on the freeway, up hill etc.... When the s is blinking that means there is engine work that needs to be done to your car before the sport can work on your car. For example I had to get my front motor mount fixed and once I did my s button stopped blinking. And started working properly

actually the sport mode has NOTHING to do with torque there are alternate delayed shift points on the transnission that senses when your speeding up its designed so yo can pass more effieciantly on the highway letting the transmision raise rpm's withought gaining speed in non technical terms it just wastes gas there is nothing sport about it just delays shift times, torque = force = horsepower. sport shift = rpms - mph. i am a master tech at a reputable honda dealership.that is how i can verify my answer

Ottoman is right about the S light. NOT a service light. Your problem may be the VSS, Vehicle Speed Sensor, because your speedometer stopped for a while. That will set off the S light because the TCU (transmission Computer) is not getting speed readings, to make it plain. I would check/replace the VSS located in the top/back of transmission by the power steering box, NOT the power steering pump. It has one 10mm screw holding it down. Be careful when you pull it out there is a small/tiny shaft (+-1" long) that needs to go back when you re-install the new one.

ADDED INFORMATION:
Check the connection or connector to the VSS and back to the transmission. Make sure they are clean and dry. Usually they are full of oil or dirt! Unplug it, spray Brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner, blow it dry and re-connect and try starting it and see if that fixes it. Also have someone wiggle the connector to the VSS while your inside the car and check if light goes out or keeps coming back on and off as it is wiggled. Check that the wires to the connector are making good contact with their pins and there are no wires disconnected.
