Default Why cant I really hear my VTEC come on in my 2013 civic si?

One of my friends has a 07 civic si and his VTEC is pretty noticeable but I can't necessarily hear mine, I just wanted to know if Honda changed anything or something.

In 2012 Honda changed the engine, an upgrade to the K24Z7 and 201 HPs, only 4 HPs more powerful but with an increase of 31 lb-ft in torque, the peak torque is now reduced to 4000rpm form the previous 6000rpm, that may be the reason you do no "feel" the VTEC, when you get ready to listen to it, its too late because it engaged already.

You can use a car performance simulator[1] to see how the now improved torque curves helps the car perform better even with almost the same power.
