Default Honda Accord good for college?

Hey guys! Well, I'll be going off to college in a couple of weeks(about 3) and my dad just told me he will buy me a car since I graducated with straight A's and I'm going on a full scholarship. Right now, I have a 2000 Honda Civic that I love so dearly, but I need something bigger. I want to keep it but, school is 5 hours away, and I just dont trust it seeing that it has 245k miles on it. I was looking at the 2003-2005 Honda Accord or the 2002-2006 Toyota Camry! I LOVE the interior on the Accord and just the overall design, would either of these cars be good for college? Thanks! Btw: spending limit is $6,000

Yeah the accord is great as with Camry. Both would be great cars for college and I agree, I like the accord better. Take a look at the Subaru legacy too, it's kind of an underdog but they run forever and are great cars. I would go with the accord or legacy, the Camry is good but alittle boring

The 2003 Accord is carcomplaints.com second worst vehicle. 2003 and 2004 were the banner years for automatic transmission trouble... I remember frustrated owners who let Honda pay for the first two transmission replacements but they had to pay for the third. Carcomplaints gives the 2005 a "clunker" status but the 1998-2004 model years are "avoid like the plague." In that vintage the Camry is the clear winner.

The second source has more details on the Great Honda Automatic Transmission Debacle.
