Im getting my dads 2003 Honda civic coupe Manuel transmission. It has a vtec and I am only going to be using it for a year. I Dont want to put a turbo on it. But I want to speed it up a bit. What do you think I should do to speed it up? I Dont want to spend too much.. I'm 16

Nothing. You are going to have to spend quite a lot of money to make a civic fast. Chances are, its an EX, so it has a D17A2 motor. Even though it has Vtec, it doesnt make it fast. The only way it to turbo, install new cams, or redice the weight by removing carpet and seats.

That engine is not really one of hondas performance engines, that's why they made the si hatch for that gen. You can try header, exhaust and intake to make it a little bit quicker but it's going to be under 200 hp. You could also do a trade in or engine swap but engine swaps cost a lot at 16. With money you can make any car fast but it depends on how much you want to spend.

Forget about what the others say of "Its not sporty.",its a man's ambition to drive a fast car at least once in their life! The simplest thing to do and add a few more horsepower and doesn't cost a bomb is two things: Performance Air Filter or an ECU-Reflash.

Remember Ryan, an engine is basically an air pump, so anything you can do to get more air in, and out, is going to improve performance, things such as an air intake, or exhaust upgrades are going to be great places to start. Just keep in mind it's not gonna suddenly turn into a drag car with these minor mods, but it's a relatively inexpensive way to start.
