Default 95 Honda Civic AC not working. See details. What could be the cause?

Hello!

So, I drive a '95 Honda Civic. A few weeks ago the AC was working but it was taking awhile to start blowing cold air so I took it to my friend's dad and he filled the freon for me. He said it was almost full though, added a little bit and it worked just fine after that. Pretty much no change, still took awhile to cool down. I drove it up until this last Saturday and there were no problems.

Yesterday on my way home from work I noticed that it was not blowing any cool air out at all. But when I pressed the AC button I could hear the fan turning on and everything.

When I press the AC button I hear the compressor and fan turn on. So those seem to be working a-ok. If it is a leak then why did it take almost a month and then just suddenly stop working?

Any idea what could be causing this? And how much will it cost to have a shop fix it?

a slow leak will take time to release the the freon

like a slow leak in a tire

an a/c shop can run a vacuum and find the leak

The most common leak I have found on Civics, is the a/c condenser, it's exposed to rocks and debris kicked up from other vehicles, it is mounted right behind the front bumper in an exposed area. Look for a wet or particularly dirty spot where the freon is slowly leaking out.

If the ac compressor is good you may have a leak in the line, it can take a while 2 notice that especially if you werent low on freon. Have a mechanic dye test your line for you, if there is a leak the dye should splash up to your hood of car and everything, if that isnt it you may need an ac charge.
