Default 2006 Honda Civic engine question. HELP PLEASE!!!?

Hello,

I'm 18 and I am currently searching for a first car. I found a 2006 Honda Civic for $6500. The car is beautiful, but I've been reading that the 2006's engine cracks and is costly to fix. Now my question is, can I maybe put a VTEC engine in it, and if I could, would I have to buy anything else like say a transmission as well. I don't know anything about cars and really need help. I'm not sure if the one we're looking at's engine is cracked but I will check. Is this problem common and if so how much does it cost to fix and how often? Thank you

Also, does the VTEC also have this problem? Is there any other engine I could put in?

I would just simply avoid buying a car with its most common problem being a cracked engine. That sounds like a really unreliable, sucky car.
