Default How do you ground the trunk light of a '98 honda civic coupe?

There is current running through the wires and everything but the light wont turn on unless i ground it (i ground it with a tester). From what i've read online, which should be happening but isn't, once the trunk is open the circuit should be complete. Meaning when you open the trunk some how the light gets grounded and comes on. And that's what i want to know how to do. Thank you for your help.

Most trunk lids have a switch that is normally closed in the hot (red?) wire going to the socket. Wire color here could be anything, it varies widely from make/model/year. It is normally grounded through the mechanical connection that mounts the socket to the lid. Your best bet, IMHO, is to remove the fuse, remove the bulb, take the socket of the lid and clean the contact area of both the lid and socket until bright with sand paper or a fine metal file. Also clean any metal washers this way. Then reinstall everything so that it is all as it was and don't forget the fuse. (Close the lid before installing the fuse, unless you enjoy buying new fuses!)

If that doesn't solve the problem, look at the body grounding cables in the car's electrical system. One or more may be broken, loose or corroded. Tracking ground isn't easy, but it is unlikely you have this problem if contacting a ground with the tester solves the issue temporarily. Good luck!
