Hondas are excellent cars. I wouldn't buy a used one though for a couple good reasons.

1. People charge way more than they are worth based on that old tip, "It's a honda so it will run forever." I see people literally quoting that on craigslist while trying to sell banged-up 15 year old Civics with 230,000 miles for twice what they are worth.

2. Lots of young irresponsible people buy Hondas because they are "cool" and they take bad care of them and run them into the ground.

If you get a used one, make sure it's from a dealer, check the carfax on it, and don't get one with high mileage.

The older Hondas are good, I respect Honda for their simplicity and reliability, i'm a GM and ford guy but like Honda. And yes they are safe cars.

Dont listen to jared. Unless youre getting a newer model honda 2005 and up DO NOT BUY IT FROM THE DEALER!!! Dealers are always charging you a few thousand extra more than what its worth. You can find a good running honda for under 3500 , just make sure to look good though because there are people who try to overprice their cars, but still id never buy from the dealer. I got my honda del sol for $2000 in good condition with 120,000 miles. at a delaership ive seen them for 5000. hondas are great on gas and parts are fairly cheap as well.

Most cars sold in US are safe. They have to meet certain safety ratings to be sold in the country.

Bigger cars tend to be safer, because they have more metal to protect you. Smaller cars tend to get crushed.

Check the safety ratings of the car. I am not sure which Honda are you reffering to, but the Accords have a very good safety rating.

Honda's are very good picks. They have a perfect balance of price, economy, practicallity, relibility and dependability.
