Your O2 sensors, which Honda refers to as Air/Fuel sensors, do just that, set the air fuel ratio. If defective, the engine runs blindly and at reduced performance.

The sensor pair (one before and after the cat) also monitor cat converter efficiency, so your problem may be the sensors themselves, not the cat.

Honda sensors are expensive, however they're made for Honda by Denso. By purchasing Denso, you can get the same OEM part for 1/4 the cost. Since tolerances (sensor electrical parameters) are tight on Honda, do not buy a generic substitute, no matter claims of equivalency and prior success by the seller.

First, go on Amazon and pay $20 for an OBD-II scanner. You can pull the codes that will tell you what you need replace. They're easy to use. Just always plug and unplug the scanner with the key in the OFF position. Beyond that, OBD is idiot proof, learning curve included.

Second, buy the Denso part or parts on Amazon. You'll save another 25% over Denso at the auto parts store (they'd likely have to special order it anyway, Bosch catering to the generic one-size-fits-a-hundred vehicles stuff).
