Default Why does my car overheat and smokw?

I just had a oil change and since then my temp light will be on then go off. Its a 1990 buick lesabre also. I drove it today and it startrd smokeing under the hood. Its passed emissions does that have anything to do with it? What could be the issue? Please help

No, emissions doesn't have anything to do with the engine overheating. Make sure that your coolant level is ok. If it isn't look for leaks. Since you said it started to smoke underhood it colud be a leak somewhere in the engine compartment. Also you can try letting the engine cool down, then top off the radiator. Leave the cap off and start the engine. Is the coolant bubbling in the radiator when engine is running. If yes it is a blown head gasket. If all that is ok try a thermostat.

Some may have an idea on the cause of the problem, but there are people who rely on mechanics and experts to check on their cars and do the appropriate action for repairs or maintenance afterwards.
