Older si models can be competivice in some classes, although at that age you will generally not qualify for the cheaper stock Touring classes... as for the best years, get a rule book for where you plan to race - this will be much more important in determining the competitiveness of different model years than the differences in the cars themselves - if this is SCCA, the 2000 might be eligible for T4, but otherwise you will probably be STC. From occassional observation of Street Touring classes on race weekends, it seems like late 80s models are more often among the front runners here (but I cannot say I am anything more than just a casual observer fo these classes).

Personally I like the 88-91 Crx... 2 seater, 1700-2000 pounds(pretty much the lightest Honda ever made) But as it is ODB0 it will be more of a pain to tune the ECU unless you go OBD1. Which you can... I think in total it's like wiring in 8 wires...

Next on my list I would have to say a 92-93 EG hatchback not a 94-95 as they have more airbags and more weight is something you don't want...

My third Choice would have to be a 92-95 EJ1.

If you don't know what my lingo means start learning before you buy a car and waste money and say "crap I can't do this" or take a engine 101 class on weekends are your local community college.

I agree with Sky. It's hard to beat a 1988-1991Honda CR-X. The car is so freakin light and they still demand respect on the track. You can kill most V8s with just a GSR swap because power to weight ratio is amazing. If you plan to do drags only, the H22 is even better. As for 1992-2000 modle years, the 1992-1995 Civic is your next best bet. It's still light weight and the aftermarekt business has been very kind to OBD1. These are the ones that started the craze in the first place and they continue to do so. One thing I like is the double wishbone suspension used on the pre-1996 Civics. This made them excellent handling cars.

Btw, please don't street race. It is not only illegal but dangerous (which is another reason it is illegal. You're endangering your lives and those around you. Please keep the racing on the race track. I used to street race back in the early 90's when very few, outside the scene, knew anything about racing Hondas. It was fun at the time, but now I see how stupid it really is. Had I been smarter back then, I wouldn't have done it. Lucky for me I didn't crash while racing and end up hurting myself or others. Sorry to be a kill joy bro, but you wanna live to see tomorrow.
