Default HID question??????????

I am trying to get HID's for my 08 Honda Civic. Both High and Low beams. Do I need 4 Ballasts in total to convert both the high beams and low beams to HID? Or would 1 ballast on each side take care of both the high and low beams?

@nick HID's upto 6000K are legal in Illinois by law. Anything above it is not.

How many HID's do you want to get? Hi/lo beams on HID's work with a shutter that is built in to the lamp itself. When hi beam is chosen, the shutter opens. When low beam is chosen the shutter drops down in place so as not to blind the oncoming traffic. So yes, you only need one lamp for each side.

how many times does the community have to tell people who post this question, that plug and play HID kits are illegal in every state. PERIOD. there isnt a single plug and play kit that is DOT or NHTSA approved.

i dont get whats so hard to understand about that.

this is directly from the NHTSA:

HID conversions result in two to three times the volume of light and potentially imprecise arc placement. Such conversions often result in beam patterns that behave nothing like the original filament beam pattern, cannot be reliably aimed, and have many times the permitted glare intensity. In informal conversations with persons who have tested such conversions, the light intensity on one at a point aimed toward oncoming drivers was 22 times the allowable intensity limit. Another lamp was more than 7 times too intense. With poor HID bulb and arc placement, the glare intensity could be significantly worse.
