Default Should I get an Civic EG or EK?

I am looking to get a Civic to modify and race (if you are a V-8 fan boy please move along i want legit answers) I can't really decide which to get because i have have seen a lot of good runs from both the EG and EK sometimes getting very close my neighbor has a 97 Ek with 481 hp and he says it has been great the last 10 years. I am looking to spend 3500 ON THE CAR this time so what could the price differences between parts be i am shooting for about 260-270 hp for either thank you for any help

Either or is fine. You could save on the car itself & get the EG & have more money for more parts. Sounds like the better option in this case.
