Default What could cause a clunk noise in a honda accord?

I have a 1990 accord and when im driving, sometime if i turn right or if i run over a small pot hole, there is a sort of 'clunk" noise coming from under the front of the car ...it kind of sounds as if you run over a big rock or something. basically i checked the passenger side front wheel and i found that the outer tie rod end needs to be replaced, but is this what causes the sound? i read that tie rod ends dont really make that much noise and was wondering if it could be something else and how i could check for it. Thank you

It could be wheel bearings, could be on springs, could be shocks.to check bearings see if you can rock the wheels if you can its wheel bearings.

For springs look under the car and check if the springs are broken, replace if broken.

For shocks check for leaks on shocks, replace if leaking.

For shocks look under car at the shocks and check for leaks,if so replace.

There is a simple test, which would be part of tech inspection for SCCA racing.

For each wheel, sit and put your feet on the tire toward the bottom of the wheel, and your hands on the tire toward the top of the wheel, and then push and pull with your hands on the tire toward the top of the wheel. If there is any thing loose, suspension, strut, bearing, tie rod or whatever, the alternating pressure from you hands and feet will show if something seems loose. You do the same thing for all 4 wheels and notice if the response for one wheel feels different from the others, and that may give you a hint something is wrong on that corner.
