Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Place some cardboard between the cable and terminal so that they can't come into contact with each other. Sit in the car and hit the brake pedal to drain any remaining power from the car. Replace the cable and the light will be reset.

Be aware that if you do this, you will have to re program your radio stations. If the mechanic is willing to do it no charge (which he should as it's a 3 minute thing), then I would just swing by and have them do it for you quick and not have to worry about the radio.

Hold the trip odometer down for about 20 seconds.

There are two lights in that year Accord. The MAINT REQD light and the actual check engine light. Any reputable mechanic should know how to reset the maintenance light. Just hold the trip meter while you turn the key to the run position and keep holding it until it goes out. Unfortunately, I don't think that's actually your problem. A flashing engine light ALWAYS means that a car is misfiring. You probably need new plugs or have a faulty coil. There are also little seals that keep oil from getting from the valve train down to the spark plug wells. If these are bad then oil in the spark plug tubes will cause a misfire, as well. Nothing too difficult or too expensive.

Wow a lot of crazy answers,, differently has nothing to do with pushing down the gas. pedal down 3 times, that is a procedure used on some older gm b body cars ,, if we are talking about a maintainince light and not a check engine light as i believe we are un hooking the battery won't reset it ,, the procedure for reseting the MAINT lamp on your car is as follows,, sit in car, key off push select/reset button on dash in,,,now turn key on with button still down wait till you see that maint light flash turn key off, now you have reset your maint light,, if I am wrong and you truly have a FLASHING check engine light that means you're car has a catalyst damaging engine misfire and i would not drive it, you will damage the very expensive catalytic converter if you do,, hope this helps,
