Default 1994 Civic Ex can't accelerate?

I have a 94 civic that while driving last night all of a sudden broke down. I was going about 65 on cruise when the speedometer and tachometer maxed out and fell to zero. At the same time I lost all ability to accelerate.

I pulled over and tried restarting the car and that didn't work. I waited about 20 minutes and tried again and it worked so I drove off... For about 5 minutes and then the same thing happened. I eventually and to get a ride home from a police officer.

The car is a 5spd manual and the stick felt fairly loose when "in gear" and out. Also whatever gear I put it in I couldn't pull off. This car was just bought the other day, and I'm praying for news that isn't too bad. The car also seemed to idle really low, like at 700 rims and then drop to about 500, I don't know if that says anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

RPMS not rims, damn autocorrect

Could it be low on transmision fluid, or a new transmission?

After I lost the ability to acclerate, the car didnt stall it just seemed as if it was in neutral.

SOLVED: Turns out I had an axle that fell out so it was spinning but the wheels werent.

your ignition coil might be on the way out. Happened in my prelude before. When it gets too hot it shuts the car off. Then when it cools it will work again until it gets hot again. It can also make your car idle real low if it isn't working properly. It's a pretty easy cheap fix. As far as the gearbox, I'd guess that its totally unrelated and since I haven't driven it I cant tell you if the looseness is a problem or just what to expect from a 19 year old transmission

Ignition Coil, as for the trans, just some loose linkage, its a 20 year old FWD, so just tighten (or replace, if the need arises) the linkage
