Default What would be the best engine for my 96 Civic DX? It currently has a d16y7 (non VTEC) Motor.?

It currently has a d16y7 (non VTEC) Motor. I am doing car modifications because my school makes us do a gigantic project senior year. Keep in mind I am a highschooler so I cannot dump 10k into this project. I have a job and my budget will probably be around 2-3k for the engine alone. I want something that'll give my car a lot more power and I plan on roughly doubling the HP.

I should have mentioned: I am going to put a turbo in my car regardless. I want a more powerful engine as well. Sorry for not mentioning that earlier.

for your budget it is best for a turbo kit

ebay turbo kit with 7psi boost and a reliable tune will get you at least 50hp more

thats your best bet with that budget

There are about 10 different B16 motors. The first one that came out was the B16A, which has 160HP. After a good turbo setup, you could be looking at over 200HP. If you shop around, I am pretty sure you can find an old B16A for around 2K or maybe even less.

Turbo y7 roughly 1500+

Ricey McRicerton a mod on honda-tech.com is running a turbo y7 with stock internals but other goodies says he runs 13.8 @ 100 mph on 10psi and he still gets almost 35mpg. (can always pm him on honda tech)

Price it out see what you can afford/like and go from there. if it were me though id turbo the y7.
