Default Honda Accord 94 gear box jumping?

Its an auto and when it revs up to around 3000rpm there is a jerkiness changing gear. Very noticable. It has just been fully serviced and mechanic said dont take off too fast and should be ok till next service in 8 months. I am still not comfortable. Could it be something big?

Until the Great Honda Automatic Transmission Debacle of 1998-2004 Honda transmissions were quite rugged. As long as you come to a complete stop before shifting from forward to reverse or vice-versa it should last the life of the car.

In 1994 Honda transmissions shifted somewhat harshly. Using genuine Honda ATF instead of substituting Dexron kept the harshness to a minimum. You don't mention a flashing D4 indicator, which means the TCU has not detected a problem with the solenoids.

A good place to start is with a transmission fluid change. There is no filter to change and you must *never* flush a Honda transmission. You can do the drain and fill yourself if you do oil changes yourself. The drain plug is on the end of the transmission - remove the right front wheel for easy access. Fill through the dipstick with a long funnel. In a transmission that old I don't recommend the more aggressive course of replacing fluid every month for three months (the drain only drains about half the fluid). Remember, genuine Honda ATF. I wonder if the mechanic did a drain and fill with Dexron?

EDIT - in any case, the harshness is not hurting anything but your nerves.
