Default 2002 Honda Civic Overheating?

My Civic is overheating. It started one-day when it was freezing outside so i decided to put more coolant in my car because sometimes the heat gets a little cold even when my car is already warmed up adding coolant usually makes it warm again. I guess i forgot to tighten radiator cap all the way not sure but once i started driving about a mile or two later the car started smoking I popped the hood replaced the coolant and tightened the cap that's when i noticed the overheating. The mechanic it is at now says it could be a head gasket but he doesn't even do that specific repair and doesn't think it is worth it. But i havent seen any white smoke from the car I havent seen oil in coolant or vice versa and no coolant on spark plugs nothing. I should also mention my fans are not coming on either and it starts to steam from bottom hose or resvoir once it gets really hot or pressure bulids I also replace the thermostat. Fans dont come on not even the AC fan and i already checked the fuses.

1. Never add coolant alone. It has to be mixed... the antifreeze is just that- it keeps the WATER from freezing. The water is what actually cools it down.

2. I'd check the sensor for your fan.

It's PROBABLY the radiator cooling fans; They get a signal from heat sensors on the side of the engine. I disconnected mine, and ran a "hot wire", with a toggle switch to the fans; That was 15,000 miles ago.( Use a 25 Amp. fuse ) .
