What engine swap would be better for a 1988 honda accord dx?

No such thing exists as "better engine swap", it all depends on your budget and what you look for, the main problem I see here is that a good engine swap will cost MORE than the WHOLE car (1988 accords).

You can use a car performance simulator[1] to virtually try any swap on your car and run comparison tests to find out how it would perform and help you pick the best one

If you want a stronger motor. Then just go with a 90-93 model 2.2L. This will give you a little more HP then your stock one.
