Default New vs Old Honda Civic?

So I'm thinking of getting a Manual Honda Civic, I already know its a great car. But I'm stuck between buying an older version 95'-20' or jumping straight into a 2005-2010 Coupe Si. I definitely want to add mods to put the Si engine into the older civic. But what would look better in terms of upgrades and mods? Newer or older Civics? Yes, I already know to go for power before I do anything with the exterior. Also what would be better in terms of money? Thanks for your time

I already asked this question, I just want more opinions!

If you are having the options of buying the two, hands down go new. If you're wanting power, not even the top of the line b16's have stock hp ratings near a k series Civic in the 06 and up models (do not buy 05 down body). 197 hp on new SI, 130ish on single cam vtec in 90's, 160ish on twin cam vtec in 90's and up to 05. Plus the unreliability that comes with older cars, not to say anything is perfect. I believe the newer models are timing chains and would not require servicing like the older Civics belts.
