Default Whats the difference in a ramhorn turbo and a topmount?

So I'm looking to boost my b16 ek9 pretty soon, I want to know the difference in a ramhorn and topmount turbo kits, which would give me better performance if different at all.

Its all in the design of the header. Ram horn will give you the most power but not as reliable because the headers get real hot and melt the welds

Please don't listen to Rick E. Fresh, he's not very smart. The design of the manifold has no bearing on the exhaust temperature coming directly out of the motor, if the exhaust is hot enough to melt the welds on the manifold it would melt any weld on any manifold regardless of design.

That being said, the difference is more in the placement of the turbo. A ramhorn is going to bring the exhaust pipes over the top of the turbo, so the turbo is hanging under the manifold and you see what looks like a rams horns from the piping, hence the name.

A top mount places the turbo above the manifold piping, making it easier to access should you need to do any work on it.

If there are any performance differences it is in the design of the piping itself, not if the turbo is mounted above/below the manifold. Where the turbo is placed has more to do with packaging of all the parts under the hood, such as the size of your turbo and downpipe. But with either manifold, you want to try and have the pipe length as equal as possible so that you have nice exhaust flow from the cylinders and into the turbocharger with minimal turbulence.

Good luck!
