Default 1999 Honda Accord with the ignition switch problem of just cutting off / dealers trying to...

...charger. Help? Recently I have been having issues starting my car and car stalls while driving, The symptoms occur during hot weather or hot car interior. The car cuts out when driving then starts right back up some times after I coast to the side and go to restart it. The dealers are trying to charge me $270.00, I thought there was a recall on 1999 Honda Accords ignition swtich. What can I do to get my car fixed without paying $270.00 for a recall. ( I was told it's the connector)

did you tell them about the recall?

"Recall Date:

MAY 16, 2002

Model Affected:

1999 Honda Accord

Summary:

ON CERTAIN SEDANS, COUPES, HATCHBACKS, AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH CAN DEGRADE DUE TO THE HIGH ELECTRICAL CURRENT PASSING THROUGH THE SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED.

Consequences:

WORN CONTACTS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy:

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JUNE 14, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009 OR ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238.

Potential Units Affected:

1000000

Notes:

AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO."

call the 800 # and let them know the VIN so they can verify if your vehicle is one of those affected

dealer should have done that, though...

The best thing to do is look for the head office customer service 1800 phone number. For example there's a Honda head office in Canada and another in the United States and there could be more then one it all depends where you live. The vehicles Vin numbers on your ownership is what they go by and if you're registered with Honda with a current address they should of sent you recall service info and a contact number to book the factory recall work.Note since Honda has many different plants making their products some recalls may only be for cars/models made at certain Honda plants.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way many dealership service centres etc have local numbers and may have a 1800 number and if I were you I'd call head office and even some dealerships to double check/confirm what your local dealership is telling you.Note don't tell the head office or other dealerships you've talked to or had the car checked already just give them your vehicle's Vin numbers and ask them what service bulletins or factory recalls exist for your car.

It's the electrical portion of the ignition switch,, there was a recall and I'm not sure but I believe that it incuded your vehicle,, have the dealer run a vin status on your car to make sure there is no open recalls due,, I believe there is one for the air bag also, , if it is your repair will be free,, our dealership runs a vin status every time you bring your car in for service to check for any outstanding recalls,, it does sound like that is definitely your problem tho , good luck!
