Default 1999 Honda Odyssey Transmission leak?

First off, I appreciate you reading this and giving me feedback thanks.

So, I have a 1999 Honda Odyssey and It has been having a problem lately. I went to a mechanic and he told me it was a transmission leak and said it would cost a whopping $2000 which i think is crazy.. It's a leak not a transmission swap. Do you think he is trying to scam me? Also,if you know what the price range should be please tell me or where I could find out. Thx.

well if its the case gasket that's leaking that means the transmission must come out and pulled apart to do this.and since they have to do that then they will rebuild the transmission. this also goes for a axle leak that has a lot of movement that means the axle bearings are gone. if you hear a noise that sounds like a wheel bearing gone but its not the wheel bearing. find local transmission shop at ATRA.COM to verify if indeed one of the problems mentioned

To add to the last answer, the 1999-2003 V6 Hondas have known transmission issues. Not surprised that you're having any issues with it. The H4 and H5 Honda transmissions are well documented when it comes to high failure rates. Still, you do have a 14 year old vehicle. It should come as no surprise that the tranny might need work. $2,000 is a lot but weigh your options. If they have to pull it to fix a leak, you might as well consider replacing parts in it as well.

I would guess for 2k it would have to be a seal that would require transmission removal, my best guess for that would be a torque converter seal,, have never seen case half seals leak but anything is possible,, anyway considering the age of the car and I assume it's high milage car with original transmission i would definitely repace or rebuild the trans,, good luck,
