Default Honda civic engine help?

I have a 95 coupe civic and I literally just painted the car a week ago so I went out driving today and my engine blew one of the rods came loose and blew a hole through the engine block I just redid the head on the car it was about $600 so I obviously want to keep the car and possibly save the head if not sell it. Should I buy another engine its a d16z6 or should I swap another one in it like a b series? I just want what would be the best option and what option would be the cheapest? Please give input if you can I really need it right now.

D16 vtec engines are cheap and common you should be able to find a complete running z6 for under $400, and a block with the rotating assembly for about half of that if not less. If you get a complete engine, I'd change the timing belt, water pump while it's out of the car so you don't have worry about it later. If you get a block with the rotating assembly, I'd re-ring it, and put in new bearings since it's pretty much already tore down, plus the belt, and water pump. Now if you do a b-series swap you start talking cost, for jdm sir-II b16 from h-motors 2,550 +shipping for a 92-95 spec swap engine, tranny and ecu., 200+ for a good set of swap mounts, axles 100+, shift linkage 125+, etc. Now you can piece a b-series swap either a b16 jdm or usdm from a 99-00 civic si(then you have to get a conversion harness for the obd2) or a b18c1(integra-gsr) on craigslist, honda/acura forums, or ebay, but still it's gonna run you at least a $1,000 to do it the right way. So, since you asked for the cheapest and quickest option. I say find another z6.
