Default Road Trip from Toronto to Los Angeles in my Honda Civic?

A few friends & myself are planning on taking a little road trip from T.O to L.A in my standard 1997 Honda Civic LX sedan, that has 285,000kms on it. Before we leave I will obviously get a tune-up & get everything checked out; oil change, spark plugs, timing belt, etc.. But does anyone have any personal experiences with older cars on long road trips, because I think my car will be able to make it their and back without any problems, but others aren't too sure. Should I be worried about taking it on a roadtrip? I have never had any problems with it at all & we would like to take it because of its amazing gas mileage & it will hold the 3 of us that plan on going. Also, any recomendations on where to stop for sight-seeing on the way there? & what should I keep in the car for entertainment purposes & incase of emergency?

..Thanks in advance

As long as the car is in good shape then you should be fine. I use to have a 91 Civic Hatch with 250,000 miles. Even though this car was old, I took good care of it. I drove it from Denver to Fresno with no problems. On the way here, you should stop at Yosemite and or The grand Canyon for sightseeing. A good thing to carry in your car would be a gallon of water or coolant. Import cars are more likely to overheat especially in heavy stop & go traffic. If the car should overheat, you can use the water to refill the radiator.

it's the hoses, the gaskets and the radiator core you need to think about on a trip like that, but even if you have to junk it you can buy a rust free car in new mexico , nevada or california for way less than in toronto
