Yes you can fit a 1.5L Vtec motor in your car. But if you don't wanna rebuild your messed up motor. Then I suggest you buy another one that's the same as the one you have. Because even though the 1.5 will fit in your car. You will be downgrading to a weaker motor. The 1.6 motor is a DOHC Vtec engine & it's a lot stronger then the 1.5 SOHC.

shy was kind of right except the 1.6 vtec that came in a 95 civic is not DOHC it is SOCH D16Y8 or D16Z6, the DOHC 1.6 is the B16 he was right about going from the 1.6 to the 1.5 being a downgrade tho I would just replace it with the same engine that is in the car. the 1.5 however will be cheaper.

Edit: the engine also does not have to be vTec it is better to have vTec but if you are having money problems you could get a 1.5 or 1.6 non vTec it will be slower but like I said cheaper. Where I live i can find D16Y7's (non vtec) for about $200 and I can install it myself for free or when people bring me their cars to put engines in for them i usually charge around 300 to 500 depending on the car.
