Default Replacing fuel filter on civic question?

This is the second fuel filter iv replaced i replaced one on my 89 crx dx and just replaced one on my 94 civic vx hatch.both have been frustrating replacing always had to realign them on the gas line and retightened.and when i tighten them i use my whole body and all the force i have to get the fuel lines tight on there to prevent it from leaking.i still replace the washers as well.anyone else have trouble like this while replacing them?

I am sure you are talking about the banjo bolt fittings. Yes, you should use a new washer every time you remove the bolt. It is what is called a crush washer and does so to seal the connection. You should actually be using a torque wrench to specifications to tighten this type of fitting. Check you manual for the specification to torque it to. You should not have to use your whole body to seal these fittings. It could be that the banjo itself is deformed. If you are using you whole body to get a seal, you are a candidate for a busted knuckle.
