Default What are all the parts that a recommended to install a turbo in a 2002 Honda Accord EX V6 Vtec 3.0..

...L? My car is an automatic, I know i will get better performance if i had a manual so should i just sell it and get a manual?

-I've heard of people installing turbos in automatics before, but wouldn't it just be a waste? like split seconds off unless you had a manual.

A decent turbo kit will cost 4-6 grand. Then if you can't install it, you have to pay someone to do it for you. After you buy your turbo kit though, you still need a new 2 or 3 bar map sensor, bigger injectors, Hondata, a 255lph fuel pump, low compression rods/pistons and then have it tuned. I am keeping this very simple, as most people don't realize how much work goes into turboing a car, so if you aren't willing to spend 8-10 grand to safely turbo your car keep your current car.

EDIT: Split seconds is a lot in a drag race... There is a huge difference in a car that can do the 1/4 mile in 12 seconds and one that does it in 11 seconds. You can turbo a automatic, but they just don't hold up as long as a manual, and you can not choose the shifting point like you can in a manual. So like I said, if you really want to spend up to 10 grand to turbo your car sell/trade it for a manual. Then start from there and read read read. Go on Fine the forced induction thread, and before you ask question read read read the FAQ. It will take you days to just fully understand how a turbo works. You need to research if you really want to do this. You can't just slap a turbo on and go.

I wouldn't do it for several reasons: 1. You'll have a hard time finding a kit made for your car...don't believe there's a turbo kit that fits your configuration. That means you'll face a load of serious challenges in fitting a unit to the car and dealing with numerous issues that only highly experience tuner shops are equipped to handle. You could end up spending big $$ only to end up with a very disappointing outcome. 2. There's already a supercharger kit made for the J30A1 engine/2002 Accord. Check out CT-Engineering. It would be a far better bet to go with a pre-engineered solution like that. The unit adds about 45 whp. 3. Your car suffers from a weak transmission. Honda paid out millions on a lost class action lawsuit where up to 8% of the Accord V6 transmissions were failing. Increasing power to a transmission that's marginal is not a good idea. Adding power tends to reveal inherent weaknesses in a drive train and the tranny is definitely a big one on the 6th Generation V6 Accords. I own such a car, and have done mild mods, having followed various Honda tuner sites.
