Default What's it like driving a Honda civic? (Weird gear box)?

I've been looking around for a first car and the Honda Civic really caught my eye. That was until I saw the interior and the weird (for lack of a better word) gearbox positioning. Unlike in other cars where the gearbox is just to the left, its raised onto the front panel thingy. Here's the link where you can see the interior pic http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...s?logcode=visc

So, I was just wondering, to those who own this car: what's it like to drive? And does it feel weird?

Thanks

Other options for cars:

Ford Focus/Fiesta

Fiat Punto

VW Golf/Polo

The only real difference is that the gearshift is a little nearer your hand compared to other cars, it doesn't feel 'weird' at all.

After 10 miles you won't notice it.

We've got gearchanges like that on the vans. Not a problem, I quite like it, it's very convenient being "to hand".

It is very natural and actually better to have the gear lever there. Could also be safer as it is nearer to the steering wheel
