Default Civic si hard kick at 4000 rpm?

I have an 02 civic so. I was driving today and I got a little spirited with my car. But later when I was driving I felt this strong kick at 4000 rpm. Normally that is where vtech in my car kickd in, bit never this hard. It almost felt like I was engine braking. It did this in first and second gear. I didn't try it in third. If anybody could help me out in diagnosing the issue I would greatly appreciate it.

It's Vtec not Vtech, it doesn't sound like anything wrong is happening especially in a modded car like yours with Vtec kicking in at 4k rpms when it normally kicks in 5+plus depending on engine..
