Make a v-tec engine in a soft suspension light car?

@Your edit: Old people don't go fast. I HATE getting behind some old guy going 35 in a 55. It pisses me off so much.































And, maybe they wanted to add a little more power to some of their slower cars.

V-TEC is offered in all of their cars, trucks, SUV's, and their minivan.































It is not a race engine. It is a road street legal engine.

You do know Honda put it's FIRST Vtec engine(b16a 160hp) into the 1989 Crx...The Crx Weight in at under 2000 pounds for dry weight...

VTEC isn't just for performance. VTEC is just electronic variable controlled timing. With the right tuning and cams, it can be a performance system, but look at the Honda Civic HX. It had VTEC with milder cams and it delivers 45+ mpg. All current Hondas use VTEC technology.
