Default 05 civic 1.7L engine sputters 56.000 miles?

It started a couple weeks ago. Everyday the car starts just fine, but once it passes 40 mph the engine starts to shake it kind of feels like it is going to die but it doesn't. So.etimes it does it around 60 mph. The only thing i have done is the oil change and air filter. Some people tell me to replace the spark plugs some say to replace rhe fuel filter, i don't even know if it has an external fuel filter. Any ideas would help me a lot thanks. It is my wife's car she drives slow and never abuses the car. Thanks.

Take it to a shop, make sure to ask them if their work's warrantied (though it must be by law). People guess because, you need to do diagnostics to be sure. It could be something as simple as a spark plug backing out and leaking, to something major like a computer issue or engine damage.

First try switching gasoline brands for at least a couple of tankfulls. I had all sorts of issues the one time I switched to an inferior brand.

Spark plugs typically last a 100,000 miles these days; my bet is fuel filter. It's likely located on the wall between the motor and the passengers (the firewall).

You are experiencing transmission "shudder". Notorious on ALL Honda automatic transmissions. If you never replace your automatic transmission fluid...this is the time to do it. Drain and fill, do it 2-3 times to get the debris out of the trans. Debris will plug up your valve body/ solenoid passage and cause premature damage to your transmission.

Google Honda transmission shudder. This happens on ALL Hondas from Civics to Odysseys with automatic trans. I love Honda, but their automatic transmissions are nothing but JUNK!
