Default I'm buying a honda prelude with a cluster that is not original, how do you trust the miles on it?

You can't, you should either have a mechanic look at it, or test drive it, look at the engine, etc, just make sure it runs fine. In most cases the swapped cluster only has 20-50k miles more(sometimes less), not a big difference for a Honda. Just make sure it runs good.
