v tec is the gayest thing in the world dont get it. Sell your car and get a mustang. I find that people think that vtec is really awesome, but no one who doesnt know about cars knows what it is, so its not something to brag about. Get a mustang or a camaro and then people will respect you.

Vtec is, Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control.I think you have I-vtec though. The "I" just stands for intelligent. So it basically means it switches to "sport" mode and gets a little more umph when trying to accelerate. Most people who mod Honda's(like myself) lower the Vtec engagement, to around 4,200 Rpms, so you can still maintain the good MPG Honda gets, but have power when you need it. If you smell burning, it is most likely oil, and you should go and use that warranty, that is what it's there for.

Brain, why would we want gas guzzling V8's with these gas prices. You talk about respect, yet here you are talking down on Honda's. Not to mention, build a fast Honda, go to your local track, and those "V8 guys" will respect a little economy car that can run 12's or lower. Not to mention it is cheaper to build a Honda, you don't have to buy 8 of everything, I.e spark plugs, pistons, rods, etc.

EDIT: You either have to chip your ECU or even better, but more expensive, would be to buy Hondata, but with Hondata, you can completely tune everything on your engine, from the idle, to the top speed, to how high you want your engine to rev to i.e 9,500 rpms.

well the reason vtec activates at 6500 until redline is because of Cam profiles. different cam profiles produce power at different engine speeds. so the cam lobes it uses at lower RPM's are for fuel economy and lower end power, the cam lobes it uses for higher RPM's are for high RPM can use a tuner and change around vtec engagement RPM, chances are you wont see any gain and it will actually hurt performance with stock profile camshafts. what you would want to do is get after market cam shafts and a programmable ECU, then take it to a shop that does dyno tuning and have them do some tuning to it. power gain from the cam swap and tuning might only be 20 HP...

As far as oil burning they will inspect it, if no oil leak then they will say its normal if it doesn't burn more oil then one quart per 1000 miles
