Default 95 civic ex mods question?

so i have an automatic tranny d16z6 vtec engine, whole car is stock. i finally have enough cash to start with some performance mods. what would you recommend to start with? im leaning toward a supercharger kit and something from hondata as of right now.

oh and don't even start with the automatic comments, haters can suck it...

thanks joe, im really going for maybe 100 more hp at most without straining the transmission since it's auto

You should probably start off with a cold air intake. That should give you a good 10-15 hp increase. Next would be your headers. Ceramic or Aluminum is good, just make sure its a good brand and not one of those Craigslist no-name brands. Check; they have all types of awesome mods. It just depends on how much you got to spend and how fast you want to go. Good Luck......

I will first start off by saying, I am in no way a "hater" of any sort. I have owned automatic and manual Hondas. The point I want to make to you is that in order to get the most out of your honda, doing a manual swap is the best way to start! The automatic transmission was not built for power. It greatly reduces the possible numbers with the same motor due to gear ratios and torque conversion. I am not hating on you for having an automatic by any means, just pointing out the power gain you will get simply by swapping for a manual.

That being out of the way, please do not give in to the hype of headers, cold air intake and exhaust. You could spend (right now) over $2000 on top of the line Headers, cold-air intake and exhaust and not even see a gain of 10HP. These bolt-ons are more to accommodate the power increase when upgrading other aspects of your vehicle such as fuel management and displacement upgrades. Also forced induction requires the upgrading of these bolt-ons to allow you to get the best out of them. Upgrading exhaust and headers and intake alone will do next to nothing for performance gains.

If you want some extra speed, the first thing to look into is upgrading that z6. The z6 is a great motor to boost if built correctly, and has great compression potential with the right amount of money, but unless you're looking to put sleeves, rods pistons cams and the whole nine yards into that z6, don't expect to push any kind of boost into that motor.

Look at a dual cam swap if you want to go all motor or even supercharge. There is an abundance of information available online at sites like Sign up and look through some of the builds and check out the newbie threads if you're new to forced induction there is a LOT you need to know before strapping a super/turbo charger onto your vehicle.

If you need help at any point please don't hesitate to let us know, we specialize in forced induction builds and can point you in the right direction to maximize your performance. Check us out at

Good luck man! You are driving my all-time favorite Honda shell!!
